An eclectic [/ɪˈklɛktɪk/] mix

When travelling I like to stay in the seedier locations. It has to be on the correct level. I don' mind junkies, prostitutes, drunks or tourists.. as long as there is no (less fighting) and no shooting. Here in Bangkok you can get everything if you want.

I have my favorite hotel and it is near Nana skytrain on Sukhimvit. It is just 8 floors with 8 rooms per floor. Small, comfortable hotel with the basic things. Breakfast is included and can be american or asian. But it is location that is the reason I always end up here.

On the other side of Sukh, is Little Arabia. It is an "box" between Soi 2 and Soi 5 that mainly caters to the middle-eastern tourists. I though we Swedes were leading in bringing a pram or stroller whereever we went but the Arabs, they are more kick-ass than us. It doesn't matter if there are no space on the sidewalk because of all the nightly stalls selling everything between heaven and earth - when two families with prams meet, no one goes anywhere.

This area is also next to NEP - Nana Entertainment Plaza. It is an atrium with several floors with just gogo-bars. So here you have the entire span of what tourism is about in Bangkok. Shopping, sex, families and food.

You see the girls of the night, stalls selling hard core porno, sex toys, dresses, clothes, knifes, more clothes. All among this are the sex tourist, the russian couple, the large arabian family. It is so fun just to sit or stand and watch. When the men look to long at one of the "wrong" shops or at the "ladies" - their wife (you have all types: from just covering their hair, to covering all but their eyes to wearing those metal masks crushing their faces) slapping their husbands. And if you listen, you can also hear the funniest things.

Walking along one of the parts where the african women "works" and I saw this dude and I just heard him talk to one of the girls saying: "Oh, no you see I come from Finland and I am no sex tourist...". Doh - if you are not interested there is no point of stopping every 2 meters and have a long conversation about why you are not "game for it". I do wonder how that conversation ended but the push from behind didn't allow anyone else to stop. Unless you really wanted to talk to every available girl.

Little arabia is The Place to be if you like middle-eastern food. You will get some really good food here. And the prices are rather modest also.

Tomorrow, I'll take my bags to Ekkamai and board a bus going southeast. I'll be travelling through Chonburi ( Thai : ชลบุรี [tɕ͡ʰōn būrīː] and then I'll see if continue down to Rayong. The weather will make the call. So far, spotty, cloudy skies during the day and then comes the rain. I do not want to spend time somewhere boring if there is much wet from the sky.
